OTN Tributary Boards

This topic describes the OptiX OSN 9800 U64/U32/U16 OTN tributary boards, including their functions in various modes and their positions in different application scenarios.

Overview

Huawei OTN product series support the use of separate tributary and line boards. Tributary and line boards work with cross-connect boards. A tributary board plus a line board together performs the functions of an OTU board. Different from an OTU board, the tributary and line boards achieve more flexible and fine-grained grooming of electrical services and offers a higher bandwidth utilization by working with a cross-connect board.

Positions of OTN Tributary Boards in a WDM System

OTN tributary boards are used mainly to locally add/drop client services from the WDM side. Specifically, an OTN tributary board receives a client service, converts the service into an electrical signal, maps the signal into an appropriate ODUk signal, and sends the ODUk signal to the cross-connect board. Then the cross-connect board sends the ODUk signal to an associated line board. After performs the multiplexing and mapping procedures, the line board converts the ODUk signal into an OTUk signal carried over an ITU-T G.694.1 compliant DWDM wavelength. The reverse conversion is similar.

In the figure, the two OTN tributary or line boards for receiving and transmitting the same signal are actually the same OTN tributary or line board.

Main Functions of OTN Tributary Boards

The differences between different OTN tributary boards lie in the type and number of client-side signals, and the type and number of electrical signals sent to the cross-connect board. Table 1 provides the main functions of OTN tributary boards. The T130 board supports multiple scenarios.
