E9000 Server Compute Node CH242 V2 Hardware Structure

The CH242 compute node (CH242 for short) adopts the Intel® new-generation Westmere-EX CPU. It is a full-width 4-socket compute node that provides large memory capacity, powerful computing capabilities, and flexible scalability. The hard disk panel of the CH242 provides one PCIe x8 slot (bandwidth x8) for installing a SSD (Solid State Disk) card. Table 1 lists the specifications of the supported SSD card.

1 Hard disk

Supports hard disks.
2 Hard disk The compute node supports a maximum of eight
2.5-inch hard disk drives (HDDs) or SSDs. Mixed
configuration of hard disk drives (HDDs) and SSDs
is supported. The hard disk backplane provides
eight Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) and Serial
Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) ports
for connecting SAS and SATA hard disks. Each
hard disk is hot-swappable and can be installed
and removed separately.
3 SSD card The CH242 provides one PCIe x16 slot for
installing a SSD card. The SSD card ES3000
are supported.
4 RAID
controller
card
The RAID controller card connects to external
hard disks to expand the storage capacity of the
compute node. The RAID controller card provides
eight Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) or Serial
Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) ports
for connecting to SAS or SATA disks.
The mainboard supports RAID controller cards with the LSISAS2208 and LSISAS2308 chips.
LSISAS2208: supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, and 60.
LSISAS2308: supports RAID 0, 1, 1E, and 10.
5 iBBU When the LSISAS2208 controller card is installed,
you can install an iBBU to protect data from power failures.
6 CPU The mainboard supports one, two or four CPUs.
The following CPUs are supported:
Intel  Xeon  E7-4800 (Westmere) 95 W/
105 W/130 W whole series CPUs, with six,
eight or ten cores in each processor.
Intel  Xeon  E7-8800 (Westmere) 105 W/
130 W whole series CPUs, with eight or
ten cores in each processor
Each CPU has two memory controllers.
Each memory controller supports two Intel
Scalable Memory Interface (SMI) channels.
Each SMI channel supports one mill brook.
Each mill brook supports two double data rate
type 3 (DDR3) memory channels. Each channel
supports one DDR3 DIMM of 1333 MHz or
1600 MHz.
The maximum core frequency supported by
the CPUs reaches 2.66 GHz.
7 Hard sink The heat sink is used to cool CPUs. Each CPU
is configured with one heat sink.
A video chip with 16 MB display memory integrated
into the FPGA chip of iMana 200. The maximum
resolution is 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz with 16 M colors.
8 mainboard The mainboard holds the CPUs, DIMMs, hard disk
interface modules, power control module, iMana
200 (integrated management module), logic
module, chipset and display adapter.
The server chipset consists of the Boxboro IOH0
using the Intel  AC7500BXB chip and the ICH10
using the Intel  AF82801JIB chip.
A video chip with 16 MB display memory integrated
into the FPGA chip of iMana 200. The maximum
resolution is 1280 x 1024 at 60 Hz with 16 M colors.
9 Memory The CH242 can be configured with a maximum of
32 double data rate type 3 (DDR3) RDIMMs
(Registered Dual In-line Memory Module). Each
DIMM provides a maximum memory capacity of 32 GB.
Maximum memory speed: 1066 MHz
Memory protection: error-correcting code (ECC)
10 Memory
board
The memory boards are used to extended
memory. A CH242 houses a maximum of two
memory boards. Each memory board can be
configured with sixteen DIMMs.
11 (Optional)
USB flash
drive
The mainboard provides a flash storage module
with a maximum capacity of 8 GB as the startup media.
12 Mezz card The mainboard provides four mezzanine card
connectors to connecting to the slots of switch
modules or pass through modules through the backplane.
The upper mezzanine card is Mezz 1 and
Mezz 3, and the lower one is Mezz 2 and Mezz 4.
IOH 1 provides PCIe x8 bandwidth for
connecting to Mezz 1 and Mezz 2; IOH 2
provides PCIe x8 bandwidth for connecting
to Mezz 1, Mezz 3, and Mezz 4.
Mezz 1 and Mezz3 connect to slots 2X and
3X at the rear of the E9000 chassis.
Mezz 2 and Mezz4 connect to slots 1E and
4E at the rear of the E9000 chassis.
13 (Optional)
TPM
The Trusted Platform Module (TPM) is a security
solution that complies with the Trusted Computing
Group (TCG) standards. It enhances platform
security by preventing viruses or unauthorized operations.
14 (Optional)
USB 2.0
The mainboard provides a built-in USB port for
connecting to a USB 2.0 device within the
dimensions of 33.9 mm * 14.5 mm * 7.12 mm.
